Qatar launches 2022 FIFA World Cup bid

FutureBrand worked closely with both the QFA and the Qatar Bid Committee in order to develop a compelling brand strategy, identity and messaging, and to coordinate the launch event that captured the essence of Qatar’s credentials, uniqueness and strengths as a country.

If successful in its bid, Qatar would become the first Middle Eastern nation to host the FIFA World Cup. Hassan Al-Thawadi, CEO, Qatar 2022 Bid Committee said, “We are immensely proud to unveil the Qatar 2022 brand, which can become a symbol of understanding and inspiration in the Middle East and around the world. Football transcends cultural barriers; in every sense, it is the world’s game.”

It is this spirit that drove the strategy of Qatar as a “True Sportsman,” which became the driving force behind the brand’s expression. The design work signals Qatar’s readiness to welcome the world. The logo features 32 pentagons, which represent the qualifying nations spiraling toward a football at the center. William Shintani, Executive Director at FutureBrand, states, “The brand draws its inspiration from the Qatari landscape and culture while also paying tribute to the ultimate aim of the tournament—bringing countries together from across the globe to celebrate football. As Qatar bids to host football’s most coveted trophy, FutureBrand is proud to be the strategic and creative force behind it.”

With this latest launch, FutureBrand adds to its growing list of successful sports brands including the Sydney Olympics, the Canadian Football League, The European Tour, and in the region, the Asian Cup Qatar 2011, The Race to Dubai and the Dubai World Championship. FutureBrand is also the proud creator of branding for Dubai Sports City and numerous other golf and leisure amenities in the region and throughout the world.
