NEW YORK April 15th, 2016 - FutureBrand Worldwide, part of Interpublic Group (NYSE: IPG), today announced that it has acquired Speck Design, Silicon Valley’s iconic product design and innovation firm in Palo Alto California, effective immediately. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Founded in 1996, Speck Design is an integrated concept-to-market product development firm that has innovated thousands of products that are used today in homes, bodies, hospitals, automobiles, workplaces and pockets. Its clients include Audi, Apple, Cisco, Ford, Google, Intuit, Juniper, Nike and Panasonic and it uniquely marries consumer insight, industrial design, technology, engineering and manufacturing expertise to make future innovations a commercial reality.
“In today’s connected world, brand success is increasingly driven by seamless experiences,” Patrick Smith, Global CEO of FutureBrand, commented. “The ability to turn brand strategy into market-defining products and services is vital to this effort as customer expectations evolve around new technologies. Speck Design has made everything from ground-breaking devices for Google, to next generation in-car entertainment systems for Mercedes-Benz and TelePresence systems for Cisco. By combining this with our global expertise in strategy, digital, retail and hospitality, we can now create and connect every part of an experience for future brand growth”, he added.
“Speck Design has been helping to lead product and service design thinking during one of the most intense periods of change in business and technology history”, said Elisa Jagerson, CEO and owner of Speck Design. “We’re excited about this next phase of our development with FutureBrand and particularly the opportunity to make our proven techniques – forged in the crucible of Silicon Valley’s innovation ecosystem – a reality for global organizations seeking to accelerate growth. There has never been a better time to unite world-class brand and product development expertise to define the next generation of customer experience and we’re looking forward to being greater than the sum of our parts”, she said.
Elisa Jagerson will become a member of the firm’s leadership team and will report to Patrick Smith, CEO of FutureBrand Worldwide. Speck Design will retain its name and expand to new premises in San Francisco and Mountain View to build on existing and new shared client relationships as part of a newly defined FutureBrand global offer.
